Happy New Year!

Library 2025 year in review is easy for me because I am still excited about it.

We completed construction and moved into the new Texas County Library Houston main branch. We will be selling the old library, and I will announce when we have it listed. For now, we will be using it as a book sale location. January hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I had a resolution to read more books, and I did but it is never as many as I would like. One of the books I read was “The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion: Vol. 1” by Beth Brower. I liked it so much that I got all eight volumes for the library and they are located on our featured author bookshelf. Now my resolution is to read all eight volumes.

Some other books I read and recommend are “The Collected Regrets of Clover” by Mikki Brammer and “The Golden Spoon” by Jessa Maxwell.

Again, for the month of January, we plan to have our book sale open in the old library building on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fill a Texas County Library bag for $10 or $1 per book. Cash or check only please. Grab some books while you can as we will be putting the building up for sale soon.

Thanks to a kind donation, we have added a puzzle activity for all ages. Come relax and unwind with our community jigsaw puzzle. The puzzle board is set up and ready for your contribution. Work on it as long or little as you like.

In Cabool, our copier/printer has broken down. Thank you for your patience while we wait for the new machine to arrive sometime mid-January. We apologize for the inconvenience but feel free to use one of our other branches in Houston, Licking or Summersville for your printer/copier needs.

One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Come by the Houston circulation desk for information or call 417-976-2258.

Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friend of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.
