A basketball tournament supporting a foundation that improves Houston will begin Monday, Jan. 19.
The Houston Community Foundation boys’ basketball tournament features six area teams in two pools. Action occurs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at Tiger Fieldhouse on the Houston School District campus.
Play times are 5:30 and 7 p.m. and on Saturday they are played at noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m.
Tournament schedule

On Thursday, the foundation presented a $2,000 check to Brent Hall, athletic director at Houston, as part of its sponsorship.
Profits generated at the tournament benefit the foundation, which works to support the community by offering a financial hand to nonprofits in the community, as well as giving annual scholarships.
It also can provide resources to those who want to establish estate gifts to benefit the community. A dinner to help individuals wanting to launch funds is March 19 at First Baptist Church in Houston.
Teams competing are: Houston, Cabool, Couch, Fordland, Summersville and Koshkonong.
The foundation says fans can help two other ways nightly:
- A donation of a non-perishable item to the Texas County Food Pantry earns a ticket for a half-court basketball shot. Tickets also are available for $1 each or six for $5. A winner is possible each night of the tournament. The pot is: $100 on Monday, $200 on Tuesday, $400 on Thursday and $800 on Friday. With the pot expanding to $1,000 on Saturday. (Assuming there is no winner by Saturday. If there is, the pot resets to $100).
- Raffle tickets are also available for Tom Barr basketball camps. The cost is $1 per ticket or six for $5.
The Houston Community Foundation holds about $1.7 million in assets. Board members are: Ross Richardson, president; Jim McNiell, vice president; DeeDee Dunn, secretary; and David Adkison, Megan Ashworth, Arika Barnett-Wiseman, Kevin Buck, Brad Gentry, David Keeney and Parke Stevens Jr., board members.
Note: New play days and times were updated on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
