The investigation into Texas County Sheriff James Sigman and his department was launched at the request of Texas County Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens Jr.

Stevens said Thursday he requested that the Missouri State Highway Patrol check into possible law violations occurring within the sheriff’s department. Investigators then reported their findings to Stevens along the way.

“I requested the investigation based on information and complaints provided to me by law enforcement officials and members of the public,” Stevens said.

That investigation led to the Wednesday evening arrests of Sigman and his chief deputy, Jennifer Tomaszewski. The duo, who the patrol said had a romantic relationship, face six felony charges.
