A specially-designed quilt will be raffled off as part of this year’s inaugural Emmett Kelly Day festivities in Houston.
The large quilt depicts the new and official Emmett Kelly Day logo. It was designed by a relative of Kelly and made by inmates in the quilting program at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking.
Proceeds from the raffle will go toward the annual Emmett Kelly Fine Arts Scholarship that will be presented to a local high school student to be named later.
After being designated by Missouri legislators last year, the first-ever Emmett Kelly Day is set for Saturday, April 25. A festival will take place that day in Houston, which was Kelly’s home town.
