• On Dec. 29, a deputy conducted a sex offender compliance check on a 68-year-old man at a U.S. 63 residence in Houston.

The officer found the residence locked and the man absent. A neighbor man told the deputy he hadn’t seen the man for a couple of days and that he believed he was staying with his girlfriend in Houston.

Houston Police Department records later confirmed that the man was at a woman’s home on Chestnut Street. The deputy also found an unregistered Facebook account belonging to the man.

At about 11 p.m., the deputy went to the woman’s house, and she at first denied seeing the man, but the officer found him in a rear room.

He was arrested and taken to the Texas County Jail.

The officer reported that the man was seen in a section of the residence that contained two beds, one of which belonged to a juvenile who lives there part-time. The man also reportedly confirmed he knew he shouldn’t have been at the house because it was within 500 feet of a school.

He said he had told the woman not to tell law enforcement he was there.

  • Donald Sigman, 68, of Highway U in Cabool, was arrested Feb. 4 for having an active Texas County warrant for a felony drug charge.

A deputy made the arrest at Sigman’s residence and took him to jail.

  • On March 1, a deputy was dispatched to a Success Road residence in Success regarding a report of vehicle theft.

The officer made contact with a 64-year-old man there who said his 2023 Ford F-350 valued at $50,000 and a trailer valued at $30,000 were missing.

Investigation is ongoing.

  • On Jan. 20, a deputy responded to a structure fire on Route 17 at Success.

Texas County 911 had advised that the owner of the burning camper trailer was acting aggressively toward firefighters and other first responders.

The officer made contact with the man and told him he needed to allow personnel to perform their duties and not hinder their efforts to contain the fire. The man reportedly said he was a firefighter in California and was unhappy with the firefighters’ performance.

The man told the deputy there were several people who might have been responsible for setting the fire.

A fire marshal investigated the scene, and the cause of the blaze was undetermined, although it might have related to residual propane in the trailer.
