On the strength of a fine all-around team performance, the Houston High School baseball team routed Liberty, 11-0, in a South Central Association conference game Tuesday at Tiger Field.

The 4 ½-inning, run-rule shortened win was highlighted by junior Jasper McCloy’s second home run in as many days and a masterful outing on the mound by senior Aaden Scantlin.

“This was our best game as a whole,” said head coach Brent Hall. “We had good pitching, defense and hit the ball well. As of late, we are improving every game. This is a tight knit group that loves playing baseball together.”

Senior Aaden Scantlin delivers a pitch during the first inning. In 4 full innings of work, he allowed only 1 hit and issued only 1 walk. He also went 2-for-2 at the plate, with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Freshman Stryker Sloan takes an inside pitch in the first inning. In 3 trips to the plate, Sloan earned 3 walks and scored each time.
After entering the game as a courtesy runner, sophomore Gage Smith slides safely into home plate with the Tigers’ third run in the first inning.
After scooping up a ground ball, freshman shortstop Knox McCloy steps on second base before throwing to first for a double-play in the top of the second inning. The Tigers committed only 1 error in the contest.
As head coach Brent Hall provides assistance in the background while coaching third base, sophomore Jackson “Chucky” Morgan takes a lead.
Freshman Tucker Venn swings for an opposite-field 3-run triple during the Tigers’ decisive 5-run rally in the bottom of the second inning. Venn also had a sacrifice fly in the first and drove in 4 runs in the game. He also pitched a scoreless fifth frame to help secure the win, which improved the squad’s record to 5-2.
