The process of demolishing a portion of the old McCaskill & Son mill building on Phelps Street in Houston in underway.

The project is a result of a recent move by the Houston City Council to enforce a nuisance ordinance with regard to five properties within city limits. The council held a public hearing on April 6 to allow people “to show cause why the building or structures reported to be a dangerous building should not be repaired, vacated or demolished.”

The other four properties are at 214 S. First St., 216 Mill St., 912 W. Route 17 Terrace and 401 Oak St.
