May is here and the rains are making the flowers bloom and grasses green!
It is great weather for getting a book and reading outside! May is the month we celebrate mothers. My mother is in Dallas, Texas, and I will celebrate with her next month when I plan to visit. She is where I got my love of reading, as I always saw her with a book in her hand and still do to this day!
In May we will also celebrate Memorial Day and the libraries will be closed on Monday, May 25.
Some of our staff attended the Springfield FOL large book sale. They came back with plenty of books to share with all our branches. We will work this week to catalog them in our collection so you can come check them out! Thank you Brandie and Liza for getting these books!
Summer Reading is approaching fast. For the first time this year, we will offer an adult Summer Reading challenge. As part of the adult challenge, we will have a presentation on the great “Owls of Forest Park” at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at our Houston branch. Hope you will attend! The reading theme this year is DINOSAURS “Unearth a Story.” We will throw in some America’s 250th anniversary themes as well. Registration for both kids and adults will start the week of May 23rd.
We are currently taking monetary donations to help with costs associated with the program. Any help is always appreciated.
Book clubs are not only a great way to hear about books you may want to read, but also a terrific place to meet new people. All four Texas County Library branches have book clubs and the dates and times are listed on our website. Come join in with other lovers of reading! If you are interested in being a part of any of our branches book clubs, contact Louise at 417-967-2258 or visit our Texas County library website.
One of the new features of the new library is our conference room and business center. The conference room seats 14-plus and has a large smart TV monitor. The business center is a private office for an individual to conduct their business needs along with a computer and printer/copier. Both the rooms may be reserved during the day or after library hours. Call or come by the Houston circulation desk for information at 417-967-2258.
Friends of the Library needs Friends! Ask how you can become a part of your local Texas County Library branch’s Friends group. Friends of the Library strengthens libraries’ presence in communities and helps them thrive through fundraising, volunteering, advocating and so much more.
