Located on Grand Avenue in downtown Houston, the Texas County Memorial Building houses both the county Historical and Military Museum and Genealogical and Historical Society Library.

Members of the Texas County Commission on March 28 reviewed personnel matters in the sheriff’s department and appointed a curator for a downtown Houston museum owned by the county.

On the recommendation of the Texas County Genealogical and Historical Society, commissioners appointed Mitchell Boatwright as curator of the Historical and Military Museum inside the Memorial Building on Grand Avenue.

The three-member panel heard from Texas County Sheriff James Sigman, who reported three changes in his department:

•Dispatcher supervisor Penny Radar resigned effective April 6.

•Corey Buckner, jailer, was fired March 21 after being hired Feb. 7.

•Alyssa Hightower, jailer, was terminated March 19 after starting Jan. 25.

The county commission said it has had discussions with the sheriff regarding comp time. It said a substantial increase from the beginning year has been noted. A budget review will occur in July.
