CASA of South Central Missouri — which speaks for abused and neglected children in foster care in the county — will host a child abuse prevention proclamation signing at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Texas County Justice Center.
Many community members will gather while Mayor Don Tottingham presents and signs a document stating that the City of Houston supports the prevention and awareness of child abuse in the community.
Last year, CASA advocated for 216 children in the 25th Judicial Circuit, 89 of whom were from Texas County. More than 450 children come into care annually in the circuit, 90 percent either directly or indirectly related to substance abuse.
April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.
