Kenny Reynolds, left, and Reuben Salazar are new reserve officers with the Houston Police Department.

The Houston Police Department recently hired two reserve officers: Kenny Reynolds and Reuben Salazar.

Both are deputies with the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.

Reynolds, 39, of Solo, spent nine years with the Mountain Grove Police Department and has been with the TCSD for five years. He is married and is a graduate of Licking High School.

“Being a reserve officer with the HPD will improve my career,” Reynolds said, “by helping me learn from new officers.”

Salazar, 27, of Houston, is a Summersville High School graduate and has been with the TCSD for seven years. He is also a former reserve officer with the Summersville Police Department and is single.

“Joining the Houston Police Department as a reserve officer is exciting,” Salazar said. “It will give me a lot of experience in places I need it, like traffic and DWIs.”

HPD Chief Tim Ceplina said the two newcomers should fit right in with the rest of the roster.

“With them joining us, we get officers our officers are already familiar with who we’ve worked with in the past,” Ceplina said. “They’re a great addition to the city; it opens new options with regard to manpower. We really appreciate City Administrator Tona Bowen and the city council allowing us to expand our reserve program.”

The HPD will add a new full-time officer within a couple of weeks, as Sgt. Brad Evans will on March 6 begin a new job as City of Houston economic developer. The department now has seven full-time officers and six reserves.

The HPD’s phone number is 417-967-3348.
