The Houston City Council heard an update Monday from representatives of the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce related to a recent downtown event and plans for the next few months.
Angie Quinlan, chamber executive director; and Gayla Bratton, board president, visited with the council and mayor concerning the recent fall festival that drew crowds downtown.
Several activities are planned:
•Nov. 12 — Holiday bazaar
•Nov. 26 — Taste of Christmas
•Dec. 9 — Tree lighting
•Dec. 10 — Christmas parade
•Jan. 15 — Annual banquet
For those needing additional information, Quinlan’s office hours at the Houston Visitors Center is 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
In other matters, members:
—Heard from a delegation of pilots related to a proposed city ordinance on hangar rentals at the Houston Memorial Airport. A first reading was held, but the council will discuss it further before a second reading is held, said City Admininstrator Larry Sutton.
—Continue to target property needing repairs or demolition following a recent hearing. Property on Broadway (Fiquet) and Chestnut (Scheets) streets must be repaired before Feb. 1. A Forrest Street property (Duncan) is under a 30-day notice that the city intends to destroy it and the costs will be assessed to the owner.
—Donated $100 for candy for a downtown Halloween event.
—Will pay $1,500 for youth to attend the Missouri Community Betterment Contest.
—Heard that the mayor’s annual prayer breakfast is Saturday at the tornado shelter on First Street.Â
