Robert Mainer, behind the wheel of a racing cart he constructed, participated in a soap box derby at Fort Leonard Wood. Sponsored by the Houston Lions Club, the 13-year-old competed with other area youngsters for several prizes — including a 00 U.S. Savings Bond and a trip to Akron, Ohio, scene of the derby finals. Chevrolet dealers are sponsoring this year's event.
