Missouri Eighth-district Congressman Jason Smith last Thursday toured the Evans Sports Inc., a manufacturing facility in Houston that has produced popular sporting goods accessories since the 1980s.
“It’s great that the sports buckets so many of us hunters use are made right here in Houston by Evans Sports,” Smith said. “I was also pleasantly surprised to discover the finger-joint ammunition boxes I purchased while in high school were made right here in our congressional district.”
Evans Sports Inc. manufactures tens-of-thousands of the popular sports buckets that act as a cooler and seat while providing storage for hunters and fisherman. Evans’ wooden storage products are also popular and the company annually makes about 100,000 ammo boxes.
Evans’ manager, Jeff Gabel, led a tour of the facility for both Smith and Rep. Robert Ross, and gave a first-hand demonstration of how the buckets are made by some of the firm’s 26 employees.
“This was such a great opportunity and I’m so proud that a manufacturing company like this with such recognizable and well-known products operates right here in our district,” Smith said. “Evans Sports is another story of a great small company in rural Missouri that does it right and has had success because they embody what so many Missourians are all about.”
