Shirley Brashers Harris, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016.
She was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Springfield, daughter of James W. and Geneva Winfield Chapman. She and Kenneth Dale Brashers were married Nov. 10, 1946. She later married Alfred Harris.
She grew up in Pierce City and graduated from Pierce City High School. She made her home in Summersville for 63 years.
She sold Singer sewing machines for many years before becoming an EMT for the Summersville Ambulance Service. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Summersville and Eastern Star.
She loved spending time with her husband, Dale, and going to her sons’ ballgames. She was known as “Shirley Girly” go her children and grandchildren.
Shirley loved playing cards, making biscuits and gravy for her boys and taking her great- grandkids out for ice cream after church on Sundays.
Later in life, she enjoyed going to the lake and traveling with her husband, Alfred.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; a son, James Dale; her parents; a brother, brother James A. Chapman; and her husband, Alfred Harris.
Survivors include a son, Gary of Fredericktown; two sisters, Dora Jane of Sarcoxie and Linda Lee of Jefferson City, Missouri; two grandsons; three granddaughters; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and many other family members.
Services were Saturday, March 19, at Bradford Summersville Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Steelman officiating. Burial was in Bethel.
