Texas County was in second place in the statewide harvest on Saturday afternoon.

Early Monday, Texas County led the fall firearms deer season in Missouri. The season opened Saturday.

Hunters in the county had killed 2,184 deer, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. The breakdown: antlered bucks, 1,175; button bucks, 214; and does, 795. 

The kill exceeds that reported on the first weekend last year, 1,745.

Howell County was second with 1,971  and Franklin County was third, 1,905.
