Coming to tonight’s home opener for Houston High School football team? Bring your cowbells and prepare to be rowdy.
Tigers coach Eric Sloan said he hopes Tiger Stadium is packed and on fire as HHS (1-0) hosts St. James.
“I hope the place is just rocking with red and black,” Sloan said following last week’s 16-7 victory at Hollister. “Bring your cowbells. I want it to be the loudest, most chaotic atmosphere ever.”
The Tigers spent the offseason preparing for this moment. Through weights, conditioning and camps, Sloan gave his players a vision of winning the season opener and returning to Houston to play in front of a packed stadium.
“We’ve talked about it since January: What’s it going to be like when we’re 1-0?” Sloan said. “We never played the ‘what if’ game. What’s it going to be like 1-0 coming home to our place to play St. James? I think the place is going to blow up.”
The moment has arrived.
“Here we are 1-0,” Sloan said.
Last week’s victory snapped the program’s 16-game losing skid dating back to September 2013. The Tigers also snapped another drought as they won their season opener for the first time since 2008 when the team won its first three games.
Kickoff is 7 p.m.
