Sales tax revenue in Houston decreased during the last monthly distribution, the Missouri Department of Revenue said. 

Sales tax revenue collected by Houston merchants took a hit in the latest monthly distribution, the Missouri Department of Revenue reported.

The tally from a one-cent sales tax was $42,205, a decline of $11,682 from the same period a year ago. For the first four months of the year, the total is $226,274, which is up $3,703 from the same period a year ago.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes — targeted for roads, sidewalks and utilities — totaled $10,764 each.

An eighth-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire engine totaled $5,382.
