The Houston baseball team twice rallied in the final innings for comeback victories the past week.
On Monday, the Tigers scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a two-run deficit and edge Liberty 11-10.
The come-from-behind win followed an even bigger rally last Thursday. Houston scored four times in the seventh to force extra innings against Thayer. The game ended in the bottom of the 10th inning on senior Tanner Cantrell’s walk-off single.
Kyle Wilson knocked in five runs, including the go-ahead single to score Cantrell, in the victory against Liberty. He was one of six HHS players with multiple hits.
Junior Nathan Poynter got his team-leading fourth victory in relief. He struck out two of the five batters he faced.
Cantrell and Wilson had three hits apiece in Houston’s win against Thayer. Kolby Walker had three RBIs.
Poynter struck out six and walked four in seven innings. He gave up five earned runs and 10 hits. Stetson Welch, who got the victory, held Thayer to one hit the final three innings.
