Phelps County Master Gardeners and the University of Missouri Extension will present a full day of gardening classes, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 21, in the Havener Center at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.
Speakers include university professors, foresters, Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists who will offer unbiased information on climate, soil and growing conditions for the area gleaned from research by the University of Missouri, Missouri State University and Lincoln University.
Morning session topics include, container gardening, “tool time,” seed starting, backyard berries, native plants, vertical gardening, hoop houses and cold frames and pollinators. Afternoon topics include practical landscape design, growing flowers for arrangements, four-season garden, composting and vermicomposting, funky containers, climate change in Missouri and Pruning Shrubs and Trees.
The cost is $10 for one or more morning classes and $10 for one or more afternoon classes. The registration deadline is March 6, and organizers suggest early registration because seating is limited.
