Coaches Kayla Sloan and Stephanie Homeyer say they are seeing positive signs from their respective Houston Middle School volleyball teams.

One match after missing 69 percent of their serves in a 25-12, 25-10 loss to Mountain Grove, the eighth grade Lady Tigers missed 19 percent of their serves in a loss last Thursday to Ava.

Darby Bell had a pair of aces for Houston. Charlee Sue Jadwin and Elayna Sisk had one apiece.

“We had been missing several serves a night, so the aces are a great start to being successful,” Sloan said.

Sisk and Tara Stanton each had stuff blocks in the match.

“This is huge at the middle school level,” Sloan said.

In the Mountain Grove loss, Sisk had two aces and Stanton added one.

The seventh grade took Ava to three sets before losing 25-15, 22-25, 25-16.

Kelly Hubbs led Houston with six aces. Savannah Ryan, Janae Huff and Madyson Tune had one ace apiece.

“Our game play has improved tremendously,” Homeyer said. “The match against Ava shows that improvement.”
