Military veteran

Lawrence Hizer Young, 98, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014.

He was born May 20, 1916, in Shannon County, son of George William and Easter Odom Young. He and Ersell Lida Bridges were married Oct. 10, 1947.

He served in the Army in World War II from Oct. 20, 1941, to Nov. 5, 1945.

He was as an industrial mechanic, ran a county road grader and hauled cordwood.

He was a member of the Summersville Assembly of God Church. He had a deep and abiding faith in his Savior.

He loved hunting and spending time in the woods. He enjoyed getting to know other people and sharing produce from his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ersell; a son, Eugene; twin infant sons, Herschel and Cerchel; two daughters, Roberta and Almeta; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and three brothers, Othel Leland, Edward Elzie and George Roland.

Survivors include seven children, Delbert King of Shelton, Wash., Ruthie James of Elk Creek, Lawrence Young of Winona,Wanda German of Hartshorn, Alta James of Licking and Glen Young and Juanita Elfline of Summersville; three brothers, Wayne Young of Summersville, Ollie Dean Young of Antioch, Calif., and Hershel Cordell Young of West Point, Calif.; a sister, Marjorie Neagle of Summersville; and many other family members.

Services were Sunday, Aug. 17, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Archie Taylor officiating. Burial with military honors was in Summersville City Cemetery.
