Goat exhibitors wait intently as the judge looks over their animals Wednesday evening on day one of the 2014 Texas County Fair.

It is the final night of the Texas County Fair and 104th Old Settlers Reunion at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on U.S. 63 just north of Houston.

Activities sponsored by the chamber began Thursday.

Included on the schedule:

•Saturday: Ozarks Older Iron Club tractor pull competition beginning at 3 p.m. in the arena, and music featuring the South 63 Band from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the community building.

After being postponed in late June due to wet weather, Houston’s annual fireworks show is also set for this evening after dark. A carnival midway by Lowery Amusements of St. Louis is in place, and more than 30 vendors with displays set up in the Murfin Building.

Activities sponsored by the Texas County Fair Board began Wednesday in the livestock showing area, with rabbit judging  and goat judging. Thursday’s livestock action featured a poultry show, sheep judging, which was followed by a sheep and goat fashion show.

On Friday, swine were judged and a kiddie petting zoo was held.

Saturday began with dairy judging at 9 a.m., followed by a general awards ceremony. The annual junior livestock sale will begin at 4 p.m., preceded by a free dinner for buyers at 2:30 p.m.

Horticulture, field crops, agriculture mechanics, home economics and junior fair displays are set up in the Murfin Building.
