Two Plato natives were commissioned into the Army during a ceremony for cadets at Missouri State University.

Dustin M. Brannam, a general business major at MSU, and Shawn E. Rohman, history major, received the honor during a spring officer commissioning ceremony in May inside the Plaster Student Union.

In addition to their regular studies, cadets take military science courses, participate in leadership laboratories and field-training exercises. Cadets also attend a four-week advance camp between their junior and senior years to evaluate their officer potential.

Military training made its first appearance on MSU’s campus with the initiation of the Student Army Training Corps during the latter stages of World War I. To date, Missouri State and its associated partner colleges have commissioned more than 1,800 Army officers.
