Vivian Joyce Powers Heavlin, 73, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at her home following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 22, 1939, in New Bern, N.C., daughter of Everett and Esther Powers. She and Frazier Neal were married in 1957. She later married Phillip Heavlin in 1970.

She worked many years as a nurse before becoming a full-time homemaker. She retired in 2001 and moved to Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Terry; a son, Richard; 11 siblings; and her husbands, Frazier and Phillip.

Survivors include three daughters, Tina Neal, Kimberly Minjares and Karen Heavlin of Houston; a son, Phillip Jr. of Houston; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Elva of North Carolina; and a brother, Tommy of Florida.

She was cremated under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.
