Plato High School junior Kelsey Leitner received honorable mention in Sports Sidelines for this image she entered in the Jostens National Photo Contest.

A junior at Plato High School was recently honored for the photograph she submitted to the Jostens National Photo Contest.

Kelsey Leitner received honorable mention for the image she took of the Plato boys’ basketball team huddling before a game. Of the nearly 5,000 images submitted, Leitner was one of three Missouri students recognized.

“My head is so big right now!” Leitner responded when asked about her winning photo in the Sports Sidelines category.

The contest featured eight categories with 8-14 photos selected in each. The photos undergo a very rigorous scrutiny by judges, who look not only for artistic qualities that make a great photo, but also yearbook criteria, which focuses on a photos ability to tell a story while applying the rules of good photography.

The winning images were featured April 25-26 at the Jostens’ booth in the exhibit hall at the JEA/NSPA convention in San Francisco. The winning photos will also be featured on the jostens.com website and will be published in the Jostens Look Book.
