Charlee Sue Jadwin practices inside The Chute, a device designed to develop proper shooting form. The device, constructed of PVC pipe and netting, helps players by placing the elbow in the correct position, reinforcing the role of the off-hand, requiring proper arch over the net, and creating better balance during a shot.

It’s called “The Chute.” And it’s designed to help players perfect their shooting form.

Representatives from the organization that touts itself as the “No. 1 shooting camp in the midwest” were in Houston at the end of last week. They hosted an offensive skills camp for players in the 4-12 grades on Thursday and Friday inside Hiett Gymnasium.

At the centerpiece of the camp is The Chute. Constructed of PVC pipe and netting, the device helps younger athletes develop proper shooting form and fine tunes and reinforces techniques for experienced players.

The device offers several simple but important tips:

  • Puts the elbow in the correct position.
  • Reinforces the role of the off-hand.
  • Requires arch to be put on the shot.
  • Eyes are focused to the target.
  • Follow through stays on the target line.
  • Shooters must be balanced when using it.

The Houston stop was the first of 18 camps this summer focused on individual player development. The Chute will make stops in Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. Another stop in Missouri –– this time a girls only camp –– is June 12-13 at Mansfield High School.
