Ruthene Barnes

Ruthene Barnes, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kan.

She was born June 28, 1929, in Raymondville, daughter of Decatur and Ruth Ann McColgin Hinton. She and James Barnes were married Dec. 3, 1949, in Hutchinson, Kan.

She was a graduate of Licking High School. She was employed at the former Woolworth’s and Wiley’s Department Stores.

She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, former member of the Loyal Order of Moose #982 and had been active in Square dancing. She was a longtime Hutchinson, Kan., resident.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Hinton, and an infant sister.

Survivors include her husband, James Barnes, of the home; a son, Gary, of South Hutchinson, Kan.; a daughter, Sherry Barnes-Barnett of Sante Fe, NM; two sisters, Rachel Laffler of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ruby Anika, DeRidder, La.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday, Dec. 27, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Chapel in Hutchinson, Kan., with the Rev. Tim Carey officiating. Burial was in Fairlawn Burial Park.
