The 2015-’16 academic year at Houston Schools features six built-in professional development days and 16 combined days off for students during the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.
Superintendent Scott Dill received input for two different calendars from teachers before presenting the final one to the school board. It was unanimously approved at last Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
The school year will begin on Thursday, Aug. 13, and conclude on May 18. The 2016 graduation date is May 14.
Students will receive a week off Nov. 23-27 for Thanksgiving and 11 days –– Dec. 21 through Jan. 4 –– for Christmas.
Professional development days with no student attendance are Sept. 21, Nov. 2, Jan. 4, Feb. 29, March 14 and April 18.
The four quarters are 44, 39, 45 and 41 days long, respectively.
