James Michael “”Mike”” Hessee, 51, son of Marceline Burton Hessee, was born Feb. 8, 1949, at Springfield. He died Feb. 5, 2001, at West Vue Home at West Plains after a battle with multiple sclerosis. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was an anesthetist at several hospitals in the area including Texas County Memorial. He married Pam Hayes March 4, 1988, at West Plains. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and active in the National Multiple Sclerosis Association. He loved to visit with friends and family, enjoyed his work and was involved in many church activities at the First Baptist Church in West Plains, where he had been a member since 1987. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Surviving are his wife of the home; one daughter, Dana Michele Smith of Springfield; his mother and stepfather, Marceline and Walter Wilson of Raton, N.M.; one brother, Bobby Joe Hessee of Springfield; three sisters, Stephanie Schultze of Manhattan, Kan., Vicki Jo Hutchinson of Bolivar and Marcy Jo Cline of Greenwood, Ind.; his grandparents, Onas and Betty Wolfe of Republic; and one grandson. Services were Feb. 8 at the First Baptist Church in West Plains with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home of West Plains. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of West Plains, West Vue Home or the National Multiple Sclerosis Association.”
