Elmer Clarence Lewis, 71, youngest child of John and Laura Walker Lewis, was born Aug. 27, 1930, at Hazelton. He died June 25, 2002, after a long struggle with di-abetes and congestive heart trouble. He was saved and baptized at an early age. Mr. Lewis enjoyed working with his grandkids in his garage making rabbit traps, sling shots and tool-boxes, giving them tools to put in the box. He enjoyed attending auc-tions, camping with his family and a good debate about politics. He served in the U.S. Army, was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and attended church at Disciples Fellowship as long as his health permitted. He married Bonnie Smith Mitchell Feb. 16, 1962. She had two daughters, Sharon and Elaine, that he raised as his own. They had two children, Kenneth and Alice. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Johnnie, Mack and Melvin Lewis; and three sisters, Ivy Poe, Ellen McCallister and Rosalie Stites Edison. Surviving are his wife of 40 years; his children, Kenneth Lewis, Alice Carignan and Elaine Jones of Licking and Sharon Steiner of Montauk; one brother, Pinkney Lewis of Licking; grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one nephew, Charlie McCallister, whom he and Bonnie cared for over the past 40 years. Services were June 29 at the Disciples Fellowship with Everett Perkins officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking. “
