Mary Lou Cook, 75, daughter of Grover Cleveland Smith and Artie Lee Felton Smith, was born May 8, 1927, at Custer, Ark. She died June 30, 2002, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. She was a graduate of Plato High School and Kirksville Osteopathic School of Nursing. She married Harold Eugene Cook Nov. 13, 1949. They had three children and lived at Lynchburg for many years. As a registered nurse, Mrs. Cook was director of nursing at Kabul Nursing Home for 22.5 years. After she retired, she used her nursing skills in helping family and friends. Her hobbies were crocheting, handiwork and her flowers. She was a member of the Lynchburg Baptist Church. The Cooks were bluegrass fans and made friends in a wide area. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alfred C. Smith; and husband. Surviving are one daughter, Deonna McGuire of Nebo; two sons, Donald Cook of Lynchburg and Dennis Cook of Tyler, Texas; one brother, Bob Smith of Potosi; three sisters, June Dawson and Leta Marie Forbes of Houston and Sonya Cunningham of Springfield; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were July 3 at the Colonial Funeral Chapel in Lebanon with burial in the Lynchburg Cemetery. “
