Word was received of the June 25, 2002, death of Ruth Simmons of Davenport, Iowa. Mrs. Simmons, 82, daughter of Fred M. and Janie Pirtle Owen, was born Sept. 25, 1919, at Tyrone, N.M. She was a 1937 graduate of Houston High School and married Dewey Simmons, a member of the HHS 1938 championship basketball team, April 7, 1939, at Houston. Mr. Simmons died May 30, 1986. Surviving are her daughters, Jean Hartman and Carol Jasper of Davenport, Iowa; a son, Jan Dewey Simmons of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services were June 28 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa. Burial was in the Davenport Memorial Park. “
