Carmela Pennino, 79, daughter of Frank and Josephine Esposito, was born July 16, 1923, at Brooklyn, N.Y. She died July 29, 2002, at Missouri Rehabilitation Center at Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Pennino shared a home in Brooklyn with her sisters for many years, moving with her family in 1992 to Missouri. In Missouri, she was known as “”Grandma”” by many. She enjoyed playing bingo, working puzzles, knitting, playing scratch lottery tickets and cooking. She was a cat and dog person. Her dog, Toto, died earlier this year. She kept her recipes in her head, cooking with pinches and shakes. She had spent the last two months in hospitals struggling to regain full function of her lungs. She had under gone surgery to cor-rect a hernia, developing complications from problems prior to surgery. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ralph, Salvatore and Cosmo; and two sisters, Rose and Anna. Surviving are her daughters and grandchildren. Services were Aug. 1 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Father Randolph Tochtrop officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery. “
