Edith Madeline Bowen, 82, daughter of George and Ethel Gray Surby, was born June 18, 1920, at Big Creek. She died July 4, 2002, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. She married Marion Grogan. They had four daughters. He died in 1951. Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker and loved to do quilting, appliqué and go to church when she was still able. She lived at Willow Springs. She married Earl Bowen. They had one daughter. Mr. Bowen died in 1984. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by one daugh-ter, Donna Hale in 1944; two step-sons, Buzz Bowen in 1979 and Vernon Bowen in 2001; one sister, Maxine Kruse; and three grandsons. Surviving are four daughters, Virginia Freeman of Edgar Springs, Joyce Matteson of Birch Tree, Georgia Helmer of Willow Springs and Kathy Carr of Cabool; one brother, Delmar Surby of Cabool; one stepdaughter, Shirley Jones of Willow Springs; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Services were July 6 at the Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Lovan officiating. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery near Yukon. “
