Elsie Janet Whitnack Blevins, 85, daughter of George and Josephine Whitnack, was born Aug. 27, 1916, at Pittsburgh, Pa. She died July 12, 2002, while resid-ing at Houston House. She was confirmed June 9, 1935, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at East Liverpool, Ohio. She married Walter Avery Blevins Dec. 25, 1937, at the Union School near Cabool. They had two daughters. Her married life began in Nebraska, cooking for hay crews, milking cows and helping run a dairy. After moving to New Mexico, the Blevins provided homes for many foster children. In 1964, they moved back to Missouri, where they logged and tended sheep. For many years, Mrs. Blevins cared for elderly women in her home until her health failed in her 80s. Mrs. Blevins loved gardening, her dogs and cat and her grandchildren. She was a member of the Lutheran church at Salem. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents, husband, one sister, one grandson, one great-grandson and a foster son. Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn Hendrickson of Houston and Joyce Davis of Brownwood, Texas; her sister, Kathrine Baker of Keystone, Neb.; two foster chil-dren, Bryon Grover of Rhome, Texas, and Deanna Hill of Brownwood, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Services were July 15 at the Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home Chapel in Cabool with David Kittner and Wayne Davis officiat-ing. Burial was in the Cabool Cemetery. “
