Thomas Bernard Lyons, 80, son of Bernard Francis Lyons and Emma Burns, was born Oct. 12, 1921, in St. Louis. He died July 22, 2002, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. Mr. Lyons served in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlist-ing in April 1941. He participated in the Battle for Guadalcanal. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, three Overseas Service Bars and one Service Stripe. He was honorably discharged October 1945. In November 2001, he received the Missouri Commemorative Medal from the state of Missouri honoring World War II veterans. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was comman-der of the Licking VFW Post from 1992 to 1994. Mr. Lyons was a member of the Methodist church in Licking, attending as long as his health al-lowed. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn of the home; sons; Robert D. Lyons of Licking and Thomas E. Lyons of Amarillo, Texas; one grand-son and two step-grandsons. Services were July 27 at the United Methodist Church in Licking with the Rev. Gary Carter officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking. “
