Elizabeth Klara Bartell, 73, daughter of Karl and Stephanie Ullmann, was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Czechoslovakia. She died Aug. 17, 2002, at Jefferson City. Mrs. Bartell won a scholarship for fashion design but was unable to complete her degree due to World War II. During the war, she escaped from Czechoslovakia to Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1952. In 1954, she gained U.S. citizen-ship. She married Lawrence William Bartell May 25, 1954. Mrs. Bartell was owner and oper-ator of a pedigree dog kennel, Dog/Gone Kennel, breed-ing and raising purebred dogs for more than 30 years. She had worked in several posi-tions including machine operator for Rawlings Sporting Goods, where she was recognized for sev-eral pieces she designed. She was an avid fisherman, a gifted artist in painting, fashion, crocheting, crafts and embroidery. Surviving are three daughters, Donna Lynn Vogelsang of Missouri, Debbie Green of Jefferson City and Doris Basel Herron of Houston; two sisters, Christine Gallagher of Sarver, Pa., and Adelheid Schulze of Giessen, Germany; five brothers, Karl Ullmann of Giessen, Germany, Horst Ullmann of Germany, Werner Ullmann of Wehenberg, Germany, Rudolf Ullmann of Langgons, Germany, and Franz Ullmann of Waschenbeuren, Germany; eight grandchildren and one great-grand-child. Services are 7 p.m. (tonight) Aug. 22 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel at Eldon with the Rev. James J. O’Sullivan officiating. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Tol Wood Cemetery at Eldon with the Rev. Walter Simpson officiating. “
