Services under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston are 2 o’clock today (Thursday) at the Ozark Baptist Church for Dale Gettys of Houston. Mr. Gettys, 71, died Tuesday at his home in Houston. Burial will be in the Ozark Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Care. Roscoe Dale Gettys, 71, son of Charles P. Gettys and Ruth Gettys Griffin, was born Aug. 5, 1931, about one and a half miles south of Houston on Indian Creek. He died Oct. 1, 2002, at his home in Houston. He attended school at Indian Creek through the sixth grade and graduated from Houston High School in 1948. In October 1948, he went to work for International Shoe in Houston. While working at the fac-tory, he was drafted into the Army, serving from 1955 to 1957. Twenty of those months were served in Germany. During his tour in Germany, his eldest son, Scott, was born. After the Army, he returned to Houston and continued to work in the factory until its closing in 1963. In January 1964, he went to work for International Shoe Machine Corp., where he was a field agent in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas. He retired in 1996. Through those years, he made many close friends. In April 1966, he married Judy Smith. They lived in Houston and raised their children, Scott, David, Sheri, Jayme and Erin. He loved fishing, hunting, playing shuffleboard and spending time with friends at the Eagles Club. In the late ’50s and early ’60s, he started playing shuffleboard. Fifty years later, he was the fifth inductee into the Missouri Shuffleboard Hall of Fame. Surviving are his wife of the home; three sons, Scott Gettys of Houston, Jayme of Waynesville and David Taylor of Kansas City; two daughters, Sheri Wade and Erin Tune of Houston; his mother of Houston; two sisters, Joyce Bonaiuto of Palm Bay, Fla., and Gloria Robertson of Houston; and four grandchildren. Services were Oct. 3 at the Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. “
