Lillie Mae Gates, 62, daughter of Wesley Faulkner and Irene Reeves Faulkner, was born Sept. 16, 1940, at Birch Tree. She died Oct. 19, 2002, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. She married John Gates Feb. 13, 1962. They had four children and were married more than 40 years. The Gates lived in the Summersville area before moving to Van Buren where they worked for the park service. Mrs. Gates was an interpreter for the Department of Interior at Big Springs Park Service. Mrs. Gates was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, where she was a past president. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James. Surviving are her husband of Van Buren; her children, John E. Gates of West Plains, Janet L. Vance of Summersville, Joyce M. McGlassen of Arkansas City, Kan., and Jean Koehn of Eminence; two sisters, Alice Voyles of Mountain View and Wilma Luttrell of Bremerton, Wash.; three brothers, Wesley Faulkner of Vichy, Edward Faulkner of Bremerton, Wash., and Jerry Faulkner of Newburg; and nine grandchildren. Services were Oct. 22 at the Mennonite Church in Birch Tree with the Rev. Otto Foust officiat-ing. Burial was in the Mennonite Cemetery at Birch Tree under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville. “
