Hazel Marie Dunigan Peterson, 87, daughter of Anderson and Sarah Ellen Dunigan, was born March 28, 1916, at Greer. She died Jan. 24, 2004, at the home of her daughter at Houston. She attended school at Greer, Eminence and in St. Louis. The family moved to Houston, where she met General “”G.W.”” Johnson. They were married in 1936 and had five children. Two died at an early age and Leroy has muscular dystrophy. She took care of him 19 years before his death. Mr. Johnson had 12 children, some older than his wife, some younger. She helped raise the younger ones. The older ones came and went from the farm home at Success. Mrs. Johnson make a big garden, canned and cooked for her family. She washed clothes for many years on a washboard in the backyard, boiling the white clothes in a big tub over a fire to make sure they were clean. She used an iron heated on a wood stove. The Johnsons were baptized into Oakland Baptist Church at Flat Rock near Success. Her husband died and in 1964, she married Pat Hamilton. He had three children. The Hamiltons sold the farm and moved to Houston. Mrs. Hamilton worked in housekeeping at Texas County Memorial Hospital for several years. She also helped care for her mother after she became ill. The Hamiltons fished and traveled together. He died in 1980. She married Robert Peterson of Licking, He had five grown children. They moved to Iowa and operated a motel/apartment complex for a year. They moved to Forsyth and then back to Houston. They enjoyed traveling the back roads of the county, logging hundreds of miles. Surviving are a son, Oal Johnson of Willow Springs; a daughter, Opal Keeter of Houston and 20 stepchildren. Services were Jan. 27 at the Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home Chapel in Cabool with the Rev. Jim Norris officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery near Houston. “
