James Michael Lofland, 70, son of William Joseph Lofland and Bernice Kilander Lofland, was born Nov. 1, 1933, at Detroit, Mich. He died Jan. 28, 2004, at his home in Houston. He served 20 years in the Navy in the submarine service as a cook. Mr. Lofland had been a resident of Houston since 1991 after retiring from the sheriff’s department in Los Angeles, Calif., as food production manager. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernice Benay and Fran Kaiser; and brother, Daniel. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary; four children, James Jr. of Salem, Kathryn Lewis of Houston, Mark of San Antonio, Texas, and Angela Cervantes of Fillmore, Calif.; sister, Joanne Feldstein of Houston; brother, William of Boulder, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services were Jan. 30 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Houston under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Texas County Food Pantry. “
