John F. McCarry Jr., 74, son of John and Hazel Wilson McCarry, was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Michigan. He died Jan. 30, 2004, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield following a lengthy illness. He entered the U.S. Army Sept. 19, 1949, beginning a career in the service. He served in Vietnam, retiring May 1, 1974, as a sergeant first class. He had spent the last 27 years living in Houston. He worked in Civil Service as a heavy equipment operator. He liked bowling, tinkering on machinery, gardening and working outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Manley McCarry of the home; two daughters, Barbara Garrett of Houston and Delores Scott Brumley of Missouri; three brothers, Steve McCarry of Cabool, Frances McCarry of Sun, La., and Norman McCarry of Bear Lake, Mich.; five sisters, Lou Snyder of Kingsley, Mich., Sylvia Hoagland of Muskegon, Mich., Rosie Harrland of Grawn, Mich., Helen Norton of Florida and Gloria Lentz of Honor, Mich.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Services were Feb. 3 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Emory Cemetery. “
