Jackie Dean Kirkman, 67, son of Bert Kirkman and Violet Huskey Kirkman Caldwell, was born May 21, 1936, at Summersville. He died Feb. 18, 2004, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. He graduated from Summersville High School in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 15, 1956, to Feb. 14, 1962. He would tell of his stay in Alaska and the friends he made there. He remained in touch with Bill Hawkins, reminiscing about the Army days. He married Daisy Tuttle. They had two children, Michael and Jacqueline. After Daisy’s death, he married Jerilynn Spielman Aug. 10, 1973. They had one son, Jason. Mr. Kirkman worked on the farm and operated a hay-hauling business before ill health forced his retirement. He enjoyed working outdoors in the yard or mowing hay and watching basketball on TV. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife; children, Michael Edwain Kirkman and Jacqueline Elaine Cooper of Summersville and Jason Bryan Kirkman of Licking; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were Feb. 21 at the First Christian Church in Summersville with Paul Hamm officiating. Burial was in the Summersville City Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home. “
