Ethel LaVonne Haggard, 84, daughter of Harper Miller and Jennie Medlock Miller, was born July 20, 1919, at Raymondville, the eldest of nine children. She died May 12, 2004. After living and working as a bank teller in St. Louis during World War II, she met and married Vernon N. Haggard of Oscar, who had returned from duty with the U.S. Navy. They moved to Sacramento, Calif., in 1946, where they raised their family and made their home until retirement. After a brief residence in Tularosa, N.M., they returned to Raymondville and eventually build a home in the pines at Licking. Mrs. Haggard appreciated the rewards of hard work, home keeping, child rearing, cooking, baking, canning and sewing. When working, whether in her own licensed day care center or as a teacher’s aide at the local elementary school, her focus was on children and providing care for others. She was led to the Lord by her teenage son and daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, four sisters; her husband of 55 years; first-born son, Gary Noel Haggard, who died in infancy, and her last son, Jerry David Haggard. Surviving are her daughter, Virginia “”Ginni”” Ruth Haggard; three sisters, Janette Holder, Joyce Lewis and Georgia Mae Green; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. After a private visitation, her ashes will be interred beside her husband and son at the Boone Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Fox Funeral Home. “
