Jessie Marie Baker Courtney, 74, daughter of Marshall and Emma Baker, was born March 12, 1930, at Houston. She died May 30, 2004, at Houston House following a long battle with cancer. During her early years, she worked at Herron’s Drug Store and International Shoe. She and her husband moved to St. Louis and worked for many years. After moving back to the Raymondville area, she worked at The Lee Co. and most recently was a volunteer with the Texas County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Courtney; her parents; brothers, John Baker and Arthur “”Red”” Baker; and sisters, Lucille Baker, Helen Greeney and Virginia Asselin. Surviving are a brother, Jim Baker of Houston; and several nieces and nephews. Services were June 2 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel in Licking with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery near Raymondville. “
