Margaret Lee Hiett, 96, daughter of Robert Edward Hamby and Minnie Lee Cave Hamby, was born Nov. 28, 1907, at Kosoma, Pushmataha County, Okla. She died May 2, 2004, at her home in Springfield. Her career as a nurse was spent working in hospitals and doctors’ offices in Texas, Oklahoma and Wyoming, where she met and married Lt. William Duke Hiett, who was in the U. S. Army. He was prosecuting attorney at the time he resigned his office to enlist in the service. After their marriage, they returned to his home at Houston in Texas County. She and her husband owned and operated Hiett Abstract and Title Co. until its sale shortly before her husband’s death in 1982. Robert Michael Becker, her son by a previous marriage, was a veteran of the Korean War and a law partner with Mr. Hiett. Mrs. Hiett demonstrated in many practical ways her deep and genuine love for the people of the City of Houston and the surrounding area. She served the community with distinction in public appointments and offices. One of six children, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, her husband and son. Surviving are three grandchildren. A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the United Methodist Church in Houston with the Rev. Bob Moger officiating.
