Marlin J. Wade, 81, son of Robert E. and Ruea Treat Wade, was born Sept. 25, 1922, near Cabool. He died May 11, 2004, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He grew up in the Shady Grove community north of Cabool, where he attended grade school. After graduating from Cabool High School in 1940, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. After his service, he married his sweetheart, Shirley Ann Heathman Aug. 9, 1946. They had seven children and lived on their farm north of Cabool. He also worked briefly at Producers Creamery and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982. Mr. Wade was active in the Shady Grove community. He was a skilled carpenter and took pride in helping family and neighbors in the upkeep of the Shady Grove Schoolhouse and community center. He was an active member of the Cabool Church of the Brethren, where he was instrumental in the construction of the building on Garst Street. He spent time at the Cabool Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pool, and at the game night in the Shady Grove community. Surviving are his wife of 58 years; sons, Paul and James Brent of Cabool and Bill of New Franklin; daughters, Pat Davenport and Barbara Bunch of Cabool, Carol Siegler of Willard and Pam Lea of Jeffersonville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were May 14 at the Cabool Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Roger Schrock and the Rev. Eldon Coffman officiating. Burial was in the Providence Church Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home of Cabool. “
