Claretta Elaine Laster Sawyer, 61, daughter of John Lowell Laster and Ethel Marie Latham Laster, was born Dec. 2, 1942, at East Alton, Ill. She died June 11, 2004, at Oklahoma City, Okla. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young woman. She married Thomas Sawyer Dec. 3, 1960, at Benton, Ill. The Rev. William Bohn performed the ceremony. The Sawyers moved to Lenexa, Kan., and in 1967 to Oklahoma City. Mrs. Sawyer worked at J.C.Penney’s and Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. After Tom’s retirement from the Federal Aviation Administration, they decided to move to a smaller community. Mrs. Sawyer and Nathan threw darts at a U.S. map and hit Houston twice. They settled in Houston in 1982. Mrs. Sawyer was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. She enjoyed her family and found great joy in Curry and Randee whom she tended during their formative years. She loved to crochet, read and put puzzles together with her brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Thira; and two brothers, Charles and Darrell. Surviving are her husband; daughter, Diane of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sons, Eric of Buffalo and Nathan and John of Houston; her brother, John; and seven grandchildren. Services were June 15 at the Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Kendall Ford and the Rev. Cordie Wimberley officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. “
