John Wesley Gates, the son of John Franklin Gates and Dorothy Vivian Murphy, was born Jan. 30, 1941, in Muncie, Ind., and died Aug. 31, 2004, near Eminence.He grew up in the Muncie, Ind., area and went to high school there.He married Lillie Mae Faulkner, on Feb. 13, 1962. They were married 40 years before her death on Oct. 19, 2002. They had four children.Mr. Gates served in the U.S. Navy. He was member of Summersville VFW Post 7222, where he had served in the past as commander.He worked for more than 23 years as an electrician at the Ozark National Park Service in Van Buren.Mr. Gates is preceded in death by his parents and wife.He is survived by his four children: John Eric Gates and Janet Vance, West Plains; Joyce McGlasson, Essex; and Jean Gates, Eminence; a sister, Sherry Borders of Virginia and 12 grandchildren.Services were Saturday, Sept. 3 at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Otto Foust officiating. Burial was in Mennonite Cemetery near Birch Tree under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home. “
